Motorists travelling across Abu Dhabi should be aware of a major traffic update from today, May 4, 2026. The new Darb toll gates at Al Qurm and Ghantoot are now officially operational on key roads across the emirate.
The activation of these two new toll gates is part of Abu Dhabi Mobility’s efforts to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and encourage better use of alternative road networks in the capital.
Where Are the New Darb Toll Gates Located?
The Al Qurm Toll Gate is located on Wahat Al Karama Street, covering access points connected to Sheikh Zayed Street, one of the busiest entry routes into central Abu Dhabi.
The Ghantoot Toll Gate has been placed on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street (E11), a major highway used daily by drivers travelling between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Both toll gates operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the toll fee is AED 4 per crossing.
Alternative Routes to Avoid the New Toll Gates
Drivers looking to reduce toll expenses can use nearby alternative roads.
Alternative routes for the Al Qurm Toll Gate:
- Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street
- Arabian Gulf Street
Alternative route for the Ghantoot Toll Gate:
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street
These alternative routes may be useful for daily commuters, delivery drivers, and residents who regularly travel between different parts of Abu Dhabi.
Why Were the New Toll Gates Added?
According to local transport authorities, the new Darb toll gates were introduced after traffic studies examined congestion levels, vehicle movement patterns, and the availability of nearby alternative routes.
The goal is to improve traffic efficiency, reduce bottlenecks on major corridors, and create smoother travel for residents and visitors across Abu Dhabi.
